New tape is almost done!

It’s themeless because it’s been a while and I just wanted to make something awesome for you folks.

To give you an idea of some of the great shit on this new mix, it includes Mono Puff, Volcano I’m Still Excited, Velocity Girl and Hüsker Dü! Awesome!

Keep your eyes and ears out for more mixy goodness from Fun Barn Tapes. Yay.

Still, and always will be, my favorite Weezer song :)

Elfonso - Scenario 3.

All’s fair in love and videogames. I think this is one of my favourite songs ever. Elfonso were a much-loved Northampton folk/punk band that sang songs about their favourite games but they were also kind of about real life too and they were funny and clever and sometimes kind of sad. I think this song is about Shadow of the Colossus and having a relationship fall apart and although I’ve never played Shadow of the Colossus, I’ve had a relationship fall apart, so there you go.

I once spent five hours
just trying to defeat Colossus,
but in the end I couldn’t do it.

And I’ve spent five years trying
to defeat that wall between us,
and you know what,
I still can’t do it.

You’re like my very own personal vandal.
Can only fight you from behind the wall.
Sometimes I wish I had that magic orb.

But even with a critical attack,
I know I could never get you back,
you’re gone forever: a sequel I’ll never own.

This isn’t their best song - their album has some absolutely amazing tracks that are full of banjos and strings and group harmonies and are generally just incredible, but this is one of my favourites. It was on a split with a band/guy called The Skull Kid, who pretty much disappeared without a trace afterwards, and it’s another great example of simple yet spot on songwriting.

The Suicide File - Fuck Fox News

And the skin is unblemished
On every girl and boy.
The sun shines on you
300 days a year.
And life is good,
When you play off fear.

Today’s Song for the Day is Oh No! by Beep Beep from their kick awesome album, Business Casual.

Beep Beep always went a bunch of steps further than label-mates The Faint, the playful mix of electronic and rock is here but it just kicks a whole lot harder. It’s kinda like surf noir filtered through Death From Above 1979 with a few Blood Brothers inflections. And that’s a good thing.

With all the tracks as cheeky as this one, you probably should pick up Business Casual.

I’ve prepared a list of words for the things I’ll never be
One that includes funny, attractive, and interesting
I’ve also got a few choice words for the things you know are
Like careless with other peoples hearts (and let’s not forget stubborn)

All of the things we’ll never be
Could fill a dictionary
And the lives we’ll never lead
They feel so literary

If you search you won’t find me inside your glossary
Because I’m only a footnote lost inside a library

Song for the day today is some lovely lo-fi indie rock from Geordies Milky Wimpshake

This song Thursday is indicative of their focussed whimsy and satirical charms. Really lovely stuff and vastly underrated, I don’t even know if they are still active. I’d love to see them live though. I really would.

This track is taken from the album My Funny Social Crime, which you should get as soon as humanly possible.
